TY FILM FESTIVAL PROJECT
Taking part in the film festival, we had to make a short film or video. My group was myself, Fiona Daly, Marian Duffy and Tomas Flynn. At the beginning of the project we struggled to come up with an idea for our video as anything we thought of would have either been too short or too boring. Our first idea was to ask 3 different people of different ages about their memories or past times as a teenager. We then realized it would be difficult to get people to tell personal stories and for each story from each person be about 2 or 3 minutes long.
We then realized that we should use a song that Fiona recorded for her CD as her enterprise project because it would be a good way to promote her CD because she never had an official launch of it and also that it's in aid of Cancer Care West. We picked the song 'All I Want' by Kodaline. We thought this was the best song to use to promote as it has quite an emotional storyline. We decided to make love the theme of the video. We wanted to show that love isn't just in a relationship it is also in a friendship.
One problem we ran into with filming was with people being absent. I was absent for a week due to a family death which really delayed the whole process of filming and editing but there was no way it could have been avoided. Because of this there was a lot of pressure to get a lot of work done in a very short space of time.
Another problem was trying to get use of classrooms in the school. We were already late starting to film the project as we had changed idea quite late. The first week we started filming there was French orals on in the classrooms we planned to use, the following week there was the Irish orals, the week after that we were on our trip to Barcelona and then the following week my grandmother passed which delayed the final filming. This really put us under pressure to finish our project in time and we feared we wouldn’t be able to get it done by the deadline.
If we were to redo this project, we would definitely need to plan out everything and make a timetable of what is going to be filmed on certain days and set a personal deadline to have the project finished before the actual dead line so we have more time to perfect our video. Another thing we would have to do would be looking into the availability of the classrooms as that was a huge problem that postponed everything putting a serious time limit on our group.
Overall I actually really enjoyed doing this project as it was very different from any other projects we did during TY. I had fun filming the project with the rest of my group and would highly recommend it as a project for future TY groups.
