After months of rehearsals, on Thursday the 14th of December 2017, Portumna Community School presented 'GAA With a Twist'. 'GAA With a Twist' showcased the talent we have in Portumna Community School. It featured the TY's along with the 2nd year music students, and several other students from other years.
The show contained the history of the genesis of the GAA, scenes from 'Philadelphia Here I Come' and 'Many Young Men of Twenty' and a Medley of 'Grease' and 'All shook up'. I was chosen to give a speech about the first sloithar, designed my Ned Treston who has a grandson living locally. I also played the part of Rizzo in the 'Grease' Medley. I also did the stage management of the show. Myself and a few of the other girls were also put in charge of finding and sourcing all of the props. We also went around to the local businesses and gathered all the raffle prizes. GAA With a Twist was written and produced by our vice principal Mr Coughlan and with musical direction from our music teacher Ms Coyle. Angela Didek also came into the school every week to help us with our choreography and Ms Lohan helped us with our costumes. |
Overall I really enjoyed the show and all the preparation for it. My favourite part was the 'Grease' and 'All Shook up' section of the show as I loved the singing and dancing involved with it. I have been in other shows and musicals but this was different to any other production I've ever been in.
